Minnesota United asks fans to 'Save the Date' for a major announcement

Minnesota soccer fans and fans of the Minnesota United FC may want to mark their calendars for August 19.

According to some soccer blogs, it looks like the Loons are planning to hold a joint press conference with MLS Commissioner Don Garber and St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman to formally announce they're joining Major League Soccer in 2017.

FiftyFive. One reports that numerous sources have confirmed the club will play at the University of Minnesota's TCF Bank Stadium for their 2017 season under the new name Minnesota FC.

As fans left the National Sports Center in Blaine Tuesday night, team staff handed them business cards with "STP 08.19.16 Be There" and "#NextStopMLS" on them.

Things have seemingly been quiet on that front since legislators and the governor failed to approve a tax bill that included tax relief for the Midway stadium deal.

The team had been waiting for lawmakers and the governor to get together on a special session to approve those final pieces.
