Minnesota United bid farewell to the National Sports Center and the North American Soccer League on Saturday, as the team heads to a new life in Major League Soccer.

"See ya, old friend," the team tweeted, after a crowd of 8,609 watched them fall to a season-ending 1-0 defeat to the New York Cosmos, leaving them three points shy of a playoff spot.

It was an inauspicious end to the Loons' final season in the NASL, which the team won in 2011 when they were called the Minnesota Stars, but the focus now will turn to a first season in MLS.

After more than 25 years in Blaine they will make a move to TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, their home until their new stadium in St. Paul is built.

"A little emotional at the end there, but the atmosphere was great, as usual here, it's just kind of unfortunate to go out with a loss," said United defender Justin Davis. "But, I thought the effort in the second half there was second to none – it's a shame we couldn't get one."

Players paid tribute to the fans for their support during their time in Blaine.

Also saying goodbye was "Nessie," the fan favorite who during the team's time in the north metro has become the unofficial mascot.

Looking ahead to next year, season tickets are available now for just $18 per match at mnunitedtickets.com.
