MLB star Jose Fernandez dies in a boating accident
One of the best pitchers in Major League Baseball is dead. Jose Fernandez, the 24-year-old pitching sensation for the Miami Marlins, was killed early Sunday morning in a boating accident, according to multiple reports.
"The Miami Marlins organization is devastated by the tragic loss of Jose Fernandez. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this very difficult time," the Marlins said in a statement.
Sunday's game between the Marlins and Braves has been cancelled.
According to ESPN, Fernandez died after the boat he was on crashed into rocks off Miami Beach. Hernandez was one of three people found dead. Rescue workers are searching for others.
