MSHSL director on hockey hair: 'Absolutely nothing to do with our tournament'

An essential byproduct of each year's Minnesota high school hockey tournament is the annual All Hockey Hair Team video.

Minnesota resident John King started the videos in 2011 and they've been a viral hit ever since, with last year's video closing in on 2 million views on YouTube.

Unusual hairstyles from around the state dominate pregame player introductions, but the executive director of the Minnesota State High School League doesn't sound very supportive of the All Hockey Hair Team.

“That has absolutely nothing to do with our tournament,” Dave Stead said in an interview with the Wall Street Journal. “It’s a guy who’s sitting in his living room taking photos off his TV set. My concern is the kids and the tournaments.”

According to the Star Tribune, the video in 2015 raised $15,000 from Warrior Hockey and that money was donated to Hendrickson Foundation, which supports special hockey programs for military veterans.

Stead's negative response about the videos isn't making him or the Minnesota State High School League very popular on Twitter.
