MSU-Mankato season of triumph comes with pain
Their undefeated streak continued though their last game of the regular season. Saturday Minnesota State University-Mankato defeated Upper Iowa, 70-7. The season ends with an 11 and 0 record. Later today they learn who they face in the play offs.
But WCCO reports that the team has gotten more attention for what happened off the field as it has for the streak of victories.
Head coach Todd Hoffner missed the entire season after being accused of child pornography. The case involved cell phone videos of his children. His case is pending.
MSU-Mankato’s athletic director said the community has responded by wholeheartedly backing the team. He said the program has been touched by the show of support from fans and boosters.
Interim coach Aaron Keen, the offensive coordinator, said the situation provided an example of how to face and handle adversity. The team is working with a sports psychologist, who worked with the team on staying focused and building resiliency.
