Michigan State won the opening game of the weekend series against the Gophers 4-3 Friday night. The University of Minnesota went down 2-0 in the first period, and despite a furious rally in the third period, failed to come back and win. Nick Bjugstad scored two goals for the Gophers.

The top-ranked Gopher men’s hockey team was stunned by a 5-3 loss to Michigan Tech Friday night. Tech scored three goals in the first period and Minnesota wasn’t able to fight all the way back. Don Lucia says the Gophers need to “start better” in Saturday’s game.

Gophers' Bjugstad earns WCHA award

Gophers sophomore center Nick Bjugstad has been named WCHA offensive player of the week. Bjugstad tallied five points in Minnesota's weekend split with St. Cloud State, including a hat trick in Saturday's 5-0 win.
