NDSU standout Carson Wentz heads to Los Angeles to meet with Rams

Former North Dakota State standout Carson Wentz is headed for the bright lights of Los Angeles.

The Bismarck, North Dakota, native is expected to arrive at the team's facility for meetings on Monday evening.

Last week the Rams sent a boatload of picks to Tennessee so they could move up to the No. 1 spot in the NFL Draft and have their pick of either Wentz or California quarterback Jared Goff.

Pro Football Talk notes that Rams general manager Les Snead has said they "obviously" have an idea which player they'll select with the No. 1 overall pick in next week's draft.

Which way will the Rams go? It's hard to say. Of course Goff just finished his college career at California and the Rams just announced a move to California.

But don't count Wentz out. If past performance is the best indicator for future behavior then Wentz fans may want to pay attention. Don't forget Rams coach Jeff Fisher once drafted a young small college quarterback to lead his franchise.

The year was 1995 and Fisher's Houston Oilers had just closed out a disastrous 2-14 season that included an announcement by the team's owner Bud Adams that the Oilers would relocate to Tennessee in 1998.

ESPN notes that Fisher had to choose between a strong-armed pocket passer from a major college program or an athletic prospect from a Division I-AA school facing questions about how he'd do against elite competition.

Fisher isn't tipping his hand about what he'll do this time around but back in 1995 he chose to go with Alcorn State's Steve McNair, even with Penn State's Kerry Collins on the board.

In 1999, McNair and Fisher led the Titans to within one yard of a Super Bowl victory, falling to the St. Louis Rams, ironically.
