Gov. Dayton says Metrodome is only suitable site for Vikings stadium

Governor Mark Dayton informed the Minnesota Vikings on Monday that if they want a stadium plan approved this year, it will have to be built on the current Metrodome site. Vikings owners Zygi and Mark Wilf are scheduled to meet with Dayton on Wednesday. Lester Bagley, Vice President of Public Affairs and Stadium Development, says the Wilfs are "extremely frustrated with the situation."

Vikings owners Zygi and Mark Wilf will sit down for a summit meeting Wednesday with Gov. Dayton, Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak, and other key players in the stadium discussion. To date, the Wilfs have turned up their nose at the idea of building a new stadium on the site of the Metrodome -- they prefer a roomier spot in Arden Hills. But Dayton and Friends will try to get them to change their thinking.

Wilf: Stadium plan coming soon

After a meeting with legislative leaders Tuesday morning, Vikings owner Zygi Wilf told the Associated Press that a stadium deal will be "in the works soon." Legislative leaders, however, remain tight-lipped.

Zygi Wilf: 'We're here to stay'

Vikings owners Zygi and Mark Wilf were elated after the stadium bill passed through the House and Senate on Thursday. "We're here to stay" Zygi Wilf said at a press conference celebrating the stadium. Mark Wilf added that the stadium "will be first class and special, and something that all Minnesotans can be truly proud of.”

Charley Walters in the Pioneer Press writes that Zygi Wilf is expected in town, possibly as early as Tuesday, and an anonymous insider says the team owner might be on the verge of approving a plan to build the new stadium on the site of the current Metrodome.
