NHL realignment suddenly on hold

The National Hockey League announced today that it will not move forward with implementation of the Realignment Plan and modified Playoff Format recently approved by the NHL Board of Governors for the 2012-13 NHL season because the NHLPA has refused to provide its consent.

Wild to pick seventh in NHL Draft

The Minnesota Wild will be picking seventh in June's NHL Draft. The Wild had a 4.7 percent chance of moving up in Monday night's draft lottery, but didn't. Notable NHL players selected seventh overall include Nashville defenseman Ryan Suter in 2003 and former Golden Gopher Kyle Okoposo, who was drafted by the Islanders in 2006.

NHL lockout threat looms

The Minnesota Wild are preparing for training camps, but the chance that the camps actually open across the NHL as scheduled is growing less likely by the day, the Star Tribune reports. Labor negotiations between the NHL and the NHL Players' Association ended abruptly Friday. No future talks have been scheduled, and with the collective bargaining agreement set to expire in 12 days, a second lockout in eight years appears inevitable.
