Already a star in ND, Carson Wentz might be the same in the NFL

Carson Wentz is such a big-timer in North Dakota that a lot of fans apparently plan on abandoning their favor for the Vikings for whatever team Wentz ends up playing for in the NFL, according to Yahoo! Sports.

"And Wentz's brother, Zach, says people have told him that after Blair Walsh missed his last-second field goal attempt in the playoffs, local fans decided to bail on the Minnesota Vikings and wait for the draft."

Wentz, the 6-foot-5 quarterback from North Dakota State University, has been ascending as a draft prospect for more than a month – and he's not slowing down. And the people of North Dakota plan on following him wherever he goes, Yahoo adds, saying that Wentz "was educated here, he found his stardom here, and he thrived here."

He certainly did. NDSU has won a ridiculous five straight FCS National Championships, and Wentz was the starting gunslinger on the past two.

The NFL loves Wentz

NFL.com's draft profile on him says he has a rocket arm with the ability to drop passes in with a "feathery touch." The profile adds: "Wentz is a new-school quarterback capable of killing opponents as a pinpoint pocket passer or as a dual-threat playmaker on the perimeter."

Wentz will likely be one of the first quarterbacks selected in draft. In fact, Bleacher Report's Jason Cole says the Browns are seriously considering taking Wentz with the No. 2 pick in the draft.

ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. also thinks Wentz is going to Cleveland.

Wentz's stock will rise or fall after he throws on Saturday at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis. Every team in need of quarterback help will be glued to Wentz and fellow quarterbacks Paxton Lynch of Memphis and Jared Goff of California.

Wentz has garnered all the pre-draft buzz, but the hype machine that is the Combine could change things dramatically.

Afterall, this is the NFL we're talking about. Look what happened to Teddy Bridgewater after he struggled during his Pro Day. He fell all the way to the end of the first round.

The draft isn't until April 28, so there's at least 10 gazillion more mock drafts on the way.
