A big second half lifted North Dakota State University to a 39-13 victory over Sam Houston State Saturday for the Bison's second consecutive NCAA Football Championship Subdivision title, the Forum of Fargo-Moorhead reports.

The repeat championship is the first in the FCS since Appalachian State won three straight titles from 2005-07.

NDSU and Sam Houston State were tied at halftime in the game in Frisco, Texas, but the Bison broke away in the third quarter with two touchdowns.

WDAY-TV reports more than 13,000 Bison fans traveled to Frisco for the game.

The station says that among the fans at the game was a 10-year-old Jordan Peterson, a lifelong Bison fan suffering from cystic fibrosis who is in Texas with his family as he awaits a lung transplant.

With the win, the Bison finished their season at 14-1.
