Warroad native T.J. Oshie made himself a household name during the 2014 Winter Olympics when he almost single-handedly led the U.S. Men's hockey team to a 3-2 shootout victory over Russia.

Oshie now will have a chance to play for the nation's capitol as he has been traded from St. Louis to the Washington Capitals.

The deal will send Oshie to Washington in exchange for forward Troy Bouwer, goaltending prospect Pheonix Copley and a third-round pick in the 2016 draft.

Oshie had 19 goals and 55 points in 72 games for the Blues last season. But he and the Blue were bounced in the first round of the playoffs by the Wild.

Following that first round playoff loss to the Wild, Yahoo Sports notes Blues general manager Doug Armstrong threatened to shake up the core of the team and that Oshie could be the man on the move.

"T.J. is an outstanding skater with a tremendous skill set," said Capitals general manager Brian MacLellan in a news release. "He is a powerful player and has consistent track record of production throughout his career in the NHL. We feel that he complements our core group nicely and can help us get to the next level in achieving our ultimate goal."

According to FOX Sports midwest, Oshie spent his entire seven-year career with the Blues, who drafted him 24th overall in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft. He accumulated 310 points in 443 career regular-season games and nine points in 30 career post season games.

The Washington Post notes that Oshie has notched at least 50 points in each of his past three full NHL seasons. He figures to play alongside some other talented front line skaters including Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom.
