Hope Solo's Twitter jokes about the Zika virus weren't well-received by Brazilian soccer fans. Solo, the goalkeeper for the US women's national team, was booed by fans throughout the opening game of the Olympics in Rio on Wednesday.

The US defeated New Zealand 2-0, but while Solo was pitching a shutout she was also hearing boos and chants of "Zika! Zika!"

Brazilian soccer fans were clearly trolling Solo for her jokes on Twitter about the virus, where she posted photos of herself surrounded by different kinds of mosquito sprays and insect protection.

"The Brazilians, they love soccer, they love football – it’s part of the culture," Solo said after the game, via the Washington Post. "They’re having fun."

Zika is of course no laughing matter. It can cause birth defects in unborn babies, thus it's a major threat to pregnant women.
