Mending the relationship between the Green Bay Packers and Brett Favre is something Packers team president Mark Murphy wants to have completed in the near future.

Murphy told the Green Bay Press-Gazette that he wants Favre's No. 4 jersey retired and Favre inducted into the Packers Hall of Fame before 2016.

“There’s been pretty open dialogue,” Murphy said. “I do anticipate that we will see that sooner rather than later.”

The reason? The Packers want Favre in their Hall of Fame before he's elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame. The former Packers, Jets and Vikings gunslinger is expected to be a first-ballot Hall of Famer when he becomes eligible in 2016.

Favre's relationship with the Packers went sour when he retired following the 2007 season, only to change his mind that summer during training camp. The Packers had already made the decision to use Aaron Rodgers as their starting quarterback, so they traded Favre to the New York Jets.

Favre wasn't happy with how the Packers treated him. He played one season in New York before retiring again, only to make another comeback in 2009 with the Vikings – one of Green Bay's chief rivals.

After two seasons in Minnesota he retired for good (we think). The relationship between Favre, Rodgers and the Packers took a step in a positive direction when Favre and Rodgers appeared together on an NFL awards show.
