Parise's back injury was so bad that he couldn't drive a car

Team USA reports to training camp for the World Cup of Hockey in Toronto on Sept. 4 and Minnesota Wild forward Zach Parise plans on playing.

According to ESPN, Parise is about 90 percent healthy from the back injury that ended his 2015-16 season – a huge improvement from months ago when he couldn't drive a car or even sit on the floor to play with his kids, much less simply feel anything down his left leg.

"I'm getting there," Parise told "I feel much better skating now than I did a month ago. Everything is going well. Training is going well, skating is going well, so, hopefully, it will continue and everything will be all back to normal before we leave for Toronto."

But Parise's rehab isn't going to end. He explained he'll have to continue extra maintenance work all season long to avoid a repeat scenario with the bulging disc in his back.

We're just a little more than two months from the Wild season opener Oct. 13 against St. Louis.
