Parmelee hopes to grab right field slot

Author:

Following Minnesota's offseason decision to trade Denard Span and Ben Revere, Chris Parmelee is setting his sights on becoming the Twins’ starting right fielder, the Associated Press reports.

The 24-year-old hit .229 last season for the Twins with five home runs and 20 RBIs in 64 games.

“I know that no decision is made up until that last day of camp,” Parmelee told the AP. “That keeps me hungry, and that keeps me fighting for that spot.”

Meanwhile, the Twins went through their first full-squad workout Saturday in Fort Myers, Florida, the Pioneer Press reports.

It was limited to batting practice for position players and bullpen sessions for pitchers and catchers because of soggy conditions. The pace is expected to pick up Monday morning.
