Patterson and Rau named WCHA players of the week

For the third time this season Kent Patterson has been named WCHA defensive player of the week. The senior Gophers' goalie allowed one goal in a weekend sweep of Bemidji State. The WCHA rookie of the week award was given to Gophers' forward Kyle Rau. It's the second time he's won the award.

Rau, Schmidt earn WCHA awards

For the second consecutive week, two Golden Gophers have earned WCHA awards. The conference named Kyle Rau its rookie of the week -- the third time he's won the award. Nate Schmidt was named co-defensive player of the week.

Patterson is WCHA goalie champion

Kent Patterson is the 2011-12 WCHA goalie champion. The award goes to the goalie with the lowest in-conference goals against average, and Patterson led the WCHA with a 2.06 GAA. Patterson was also the Gophers' nomination for WCHA Player of the Year, which will be announced next week.

Patterson named WCHA Co-Defensive Player of the Week

For the second time this season, Gophers senior goaltender Kent Patterson has been named WCHA Co-Defensive Player of the Week. Patterson allowed just one goal in Minnesota's sweep over Alaska-Anchorage, and picked up his NCAA leading fourth shutout of the season.

Three Gophers named Hobey Baker candidates

Three Gophers are among 77 candidates for the Hobey Baker Award, which goes to the nations top college hockey player. Goalie Kent Patterson, forward Nick Bjugstad, and forward Kyle Rau made the list. The candidates will eventually be trimmed to three, with the winner being named April 6.

UMD's Connolly is WCHA Player of the Year, Bjugstad & Patterson on first team

Minnesota-Duluth captain Jack Connolly was named WCHA Player of the Year Thursday. He received 48 of 96 first place votes. Gophers' forward Nick Bjugstad and goalie Kent Patterson were named to the All-WCHA First Team.

Patterson & Rau earn national honors

The awards keep on coming for the Minnesota Gophers men's hockey team. Goalie Kent Patterson has been named the National Player of the Month for October. The National Rookie of the Month award for October went to freshman Kyle Rau.

Kyle Rau: 'A lot can happen'

Kyle Rau is still just a freshman for the Gophers hockey team, but he says his confidence has increased so he "doesn't feel like a first year player" anymore. As for being in first place in the WCHA, Rau says "a lot can happen."
