The Minnesota Twins are honoring Jacob Wetterling Friday night by wearing a No. 11 patch on their uniforms. The Cleveland Indians will do the same as they play at Target Field, and on the outfield wall will be a large logo displaying "Jacob's Hope Lives."

"I received an email yesterday from the Twins, telling me about the plans to honor Jacob tonight," Twins manager Paul Molitor told Ben, Dana and Giselle on the Go 96.3 morning show. "We all are so heartbroken by what transpired there – from 27 years ago all the way up to the last couple of weeks. We want to be an organization that honors and respects that situation, so tonight – at least a small part of what we can do – is to wear that No. 11 patch.

"It'll be emotional. Be praying for the family as they go through this closure period. We will be out there and we will pay our respects."

Wetterling was kidnapped as an 11-year-old in 1989 and it wasn't until earlier this week that his family learned Jacob was killed the night he was taken.

Former Twins Al Newman and Dan Gladden were among the first search groups looking for Wetterling 27 years ago.

"I'm proud to be part of an organization that's stepping up and doing the right thing," Molitor added.

The Jacob Wetterling Resource Center, which was started by Patty and Jerry Wetterling following Jacob's disappearance, started the #11forJacob movement this week – encouraging those honoring Jacob by wearing No. 11 to do 11 things for people to "nurture a culture of kindness and compassion."
