Pavano 'great' in Twins loss to Boston

Carl Pavano pitched five strong innings before allowing four runs in the sixth inning of the Twins 5-1 loss to Boston on Sunday. Ron Gardenhire was pleased with Pavano and said he's "where we wanted him to be" entering the regular season. Pavano will start Friday in the season opener at Baltimore.

Minnesota Twins pitcher Carl Pavano is returning to Minneapolis Sunday to meet with the team's physician, and then will have an MRI exam done on his sore right shoulder Monday. Pavano gave up seven runs and nine hits in 3 2-3 innings against the Cleveland Indians Friday. Pavano's MRI on May 11 revealed a strain in the front of his right shoulder.

Twins general manager Terry Ryan tells the Pioneer Press Carl Pavano will throw 40 pitches in Fort Myers on Thursday. The right-hander has been on the DL since June 4 because of soreness in his right shoulder.

Carl Pavano will enter his start Saturday against the Brewers feeling healthier than he has in recent weeks. The Twins righthander has been battling a slight shoulder strain and stayed in the Twin Cities for treatment Wednesday and Thursday while his teammates played two games in Detroit. Pavano rejoined the club Friday. The Twins are riding their first three-game winning streak since last July.

Pavano to start spring training opener

The Twins kick off their 30-game spring training schedule Saturday against the Tampa Bay Rays, and Carl Pavano will be the starting pitcher. Sunday's split-squad will feature Francisco Liriano against the Rays and Terry Doyle against the Red Sox.
