Pelfrey pitches another gem as the Twins top Tigers

Twins starter Mike Pelfrey had another solid showing as Minnesota rallied to beat the Detroit Tigers 3-2 on Tuesday night at Target Field. It was their first win against the Tigers this year.

The Twins scored two runs on four hits in the bottom of the seventh inning, and turned a 2-1 deficit into a 3-2 lead off Tigers starter Anibal Sanchez (1-3).

Pelfrey (2-0) held the Tigers to two runs on three hits, while striking out seven in seven innings. Pelfrey, who had to wait 610 days – nearly two years – for his last Major League victory, only had to wait six days this time around.

Casey Fien pitched a perfect eighth inning, while Glen Perkins closed out the ninth for his sixth save.

Danny Santana had his second consecutive three-hit night, finishing 3-for-4 with an RBI. Kurt Suzuki was 2-for-2 with an RBI and Oswaldo Arcia returned to the Twins lineup, going 2-for-3 with a run scored

But Arcia made a big blunder on the bases that could have cost the Twins a few runs.

Phil Hughes (0-4) heads to the mound for the Twins on Wednesday afternoon to face Tigers starter Shane Greene (3-1).
