Peterson the only Viking named to 2014 Pro Bowl

Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson was named to his sixth career Pro Bowl, the NFL announced Friday.

Peterson is listed as doubtful on this week's injury report, so he'll likely sit out Sunday's season finale between the Vikings and Lions at Mall of America Field.

Peterson ranks third in the NFL with 1,266 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns (10 rushing, one receiving).

The only Vikings selected to more Pro Bowls than Peterson are Randall McDaniell (11), Alan Page (9), Cris Carter (8) and Ron Yary (7).

No other Vikings were named to the Pro Bowl. One player that could be considered a Pro Bowl snub is rookie kick returner Cordarrelle Patterson. Two returners are picked, and this year's representatives are Pittsburgh's Antonio Brown and Kansas City's Dexter McCluster.

Patterson leads the NFL in kick return yards (1,342), average (33.6) and touchdowns (2).

This is the first year the NFL will go without the usual National and American conferences. Instead, the first-ever Pro Bowl Draft will be held during a live broadcast on NFL Network on Jan. 22, 2014.

NFL legends Jerry Rice and Deion Sanders will serve as team captains.
