Pitino hires two coaches from FIU to join Gophers

It’s the first official day on the job for Gophers basketball coach Richard Pitino, and he’s already announced two assistant coaches.

To no one’s surprise they’re Mike Balado and Kimani Young, who follow Pitino from Florida International University.

Both were assistants under Pitino last season, and helped Pitino turn a struggling basketball program into an 18-game winner.

In a news release, Pitino calls each “terrific recruiters” who are "well-respected in the coaching community."
