Polaris recalls 6,930 vehicles for fire hazards and crash risks

Author:

Polaris has recalled about 6,930 snowmobiles and ATVs for safety hazards amid concerns some pose fire and crash risks.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says about 4,700 year 2015 snowmobiles are at risk for a steering problem. Polaris says people are losing control and, in three instances, crashing.

So far, Polaris says they've received 11 reports of the problem, and one person has been injured.

According to Polaris, another 2,230 off-highway vehicles are being recalled due to a fire hazard. They say they've received two reports that their 2016 RZR XP Turbos have leaked oil and two have caught on fire. The company says it's because the vehicles oil drain has a tendency to leak, no injuries have been reported.

The Safety Commission asks consumers to stop using the recalled machines immediately and contact their local Polaris dealer to schedule a free repair. They say Polaris will send a recall letter to anyone who bought one of the vehicles.

Polaris has had several recalls over the last year. In October, the company recalled 53,000 ATVs because of a fire hazard. They also recalled some of their youth RZRs in July and 3-wheel Slingshots in January.

The snowmobiles affected in the callback are the following 2015 models: 600 Rush Pro-S and Pro-X, 600 Switchback Pro-S and Pro-X, the Switchback Adventure, 800 Rush Pro-S and Pro-X, the 800 Switchback Pro-S and Pro-X, the 550 Indy Voyageur 155, the 550 Indy Adventure 155,, and the 600/800 Axys Rush.

The off-road vehicle recall affects the following 2016 model: Polaris RZR XP Turbo recreational off-highway vehicles with Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) 3NSVDE925GF454105 through 3NSVDE923GF459495.
