It really is crazy how fast the high school football season races by. Technically, this is week four of the season, but for the teams that played during Zero Week, this is already week five.
Pretty soon we'll be doing previews for the Prep Bowl. That also means snow is on the way, and that's just wrong. Anyway, here are my top five games of the week.
New London-Spicer at Glencoe-Silver Lake: Two high-powered teams with state tournament tradition. GSL has played a tough schedule, but NLS looks like a potential state tourney team again this season. I think GSL will slow down the outstanding NLS offense, but I believe the Wildcats will pull out a victory.
Rosemount at Prior Lake: Two highly rated teams do battle in the South Suburban Conference. This one is very important for conference positioning. Both are 2-1 overall, and 2-0 in the conference. Prior Lake held their own against Eden Prairie, so they're a slight favorite at home.
Edina at Eden Prairie: At this point it looks like Eden Prairie will demolish every team in the state by three touchdowns. I'm not sure Edina can stay with the Eagles, but if they can keep it a close game they'll make a statement (in a moral victory sort of way).
Mankato West at Rochester John Marshall: West lost on a last second field goal to Owatonna last week. John Marshall is frequently viewed as the third best team in the Big 9 Conference -- behind West and Owatonna -- but I feel John Marshall has an outstanding chance to win the game. Watch out for West quarterback, Ryan Schlichte -- he can spin it with the best of them.
Maple Grove at Blaine: A Northwest Suburban Conference game that features the spread offense of Blaine against the up-and-coming Crimson. Maple Grove has allowed just 14 points through three games, and the Bengals are coming off a blowout loss to Osseo. A 4-0 start for Maple Grove could open the eyes of everyone.
