The boys hockey State Tournament starts next week and section finals are being played across Minnesota. Six teams earned trips with section championships on Wednesday night, and more followed suit Thursday night.

Class AA

The first team to earn a state tourney berth on Thursday was Lakeville North. The Panthers topped Lakeville South, 6-3 to claim the section 1 title.

The Edina Hornets defeated the Burnsville Blaze, 3-2 to Mariucci Arena to become the first team this year to clinch a trip to the State Tournament. It's the Hornets' seventh straight trip to state.

Eastview upset No. 1 seed Eagan, 3-1 for the section 3 championship.

There will be a new champion in AA as the Benilde-St. Margaret's Red Knights were rocked by Wayzata, 5-2 in the section 6 final. It's Wayzata's first trip to the tourney since 2004.

Duluth East is back in the state tournament after surviving a tough game against Grand Rapids in the section 7 final.

In section 8 Moorhead and Brainerd battled for two periods without a goal, but the Spuds scored twice in the third to earn a return trip to State.

Class A

The first team to punch a ticket to state in Class A was Rochester Lourdes, which claimed the section 1 title with a 6-1 win over Mankato West.

The section 2 championship trophy belongs to Breck, which crushed Delano, 6-2.

Marshall beat Hutchinson, 3-2 and will represent section 3.

Little Falls -- the favorite in section 6 -- was upset by St. Cloud Apollo on Thursday night. Final score, 2-1 Eagles.

Duluth-Marshall nipped Duluth-Denfeld, 3-2 to advance out of section 7.

East Grand Forks topped perennial power Warroad, 2-0 for the section 8 title.
