St. Thomas Academy has won two small-school boys hockey state championships, and three since 2008. On Monday the school submitted an application to the Minnesota State High School League to move up to Class 2A. The two-year commitment will begin next year.

In other high school hockey news, Hill-Murray handed Benilde-St. Margaret's its first loss of the season. It was a rematch of last year's Class 2A championship game, which the Red Knights won.
