Preview: Twins host Tampa Bay Rays

The Twins were off Thursday but are back at Target Field Friday night for the first of a three game series against the Tampa Bay Rays. It will be a midwest matchup on the mound as Eden Prairie native Cole De Vries starts for the Twins while Des Moines, Iowa native Jeremy Hellickson starts for the Rays.

Rays rip De Vries, Twins, 12-6

The Rays lit up Cole De Vries for eight runs in the first two innings and went on to crush the Twins, 12-6 Friday night at Target Field. Joe Mauer led the Twins with a 3-4 performance at the plate, but this one was out of reach early.

The Twins plan to recall Cole De Vries from Triple-A Rochester to start the second half of Saturday's day-night doubleheader with the Royals. De Vries was 1-1 with a 4.20 ERA in three starts with the Twins earlier this year.
