The Twins (18-22) wrapped up a failed homestand with a 5-1 loss to the Red Sox (27-17) Sunday afternoon at Target Field.

Boston starter John Lackey held the Twins to just one hit over six innings before rain delayed the game for three hours. Lackey allowed one unearned run in the fifth.

After the strong storms pulled out of the metro area, the Twins' bats remained silent, althought they did come up with four hits against the Red Sox bullpen.

Pedro Hernandez needed 107 pitches to get 13 outs before being pulled after allowing three runs on nine hits in just 4 1/3 innings pitched.

The score was 3-1 in the top of the ninth inning until Dustin Pedroia's deep fly ball to left field bounced off the heel of Josh Willingham's glove and caromed over the wall for a two-run home run.

Minnesota finished the nine-game homestand with just two wins, and they were swept by the Red Sox.

The Twins will take a five-game losing streak into a nine-game road trip that starts Monday night in Atlanta.
