Ranking MN athletes based on social media popularity

The NBA dominates social media popularity; Maya Moore cracks the top 10.

The NBA and NFL are superior to MLB and NHL when it comes to ranking Minnesota athletes' popularity on Twitter and Instagram.

The king of social media among Minnesota sports stars is Jimmy Butler with 2.6 million Instagram followers and 470,000 Twitter followers.

Also in the millionaire club for followers are Andrew Wiggins, Karl-Anthony Towns and Jamal Crawford.

Teddy Bridgewater is the most popular Vikings player while Maya Moore of the Lynx is in the top 10 overall. The Twins and Wild have work to do.

Here's the top 20.

Just missing the cut were Vikings cornerback Trae Waynes (109,300), Twins second baseman Brian Dozier (106,200) and Lynx guard Seimone Augustus (106,000).

Nino Niederreiter is the most-followed Wild player with 55,900 Twitter followers and 40,400 Instagram followers.

Were Adrian Peterson still in Minnesota he would've ranked fourth with 1.6 million followers and Ricky Rubio, now with the Utah Jazz, would've been second with 2.6 million.
