Red Sox clip Twins in 10 innings, 3-2

The Twins lost to the Red Sox, 3-2 in 10 innings Friday night in the opening game of a weekend series at Target Field.

Jonny Gomes' sacrifice fly in the top of the tenth proved to be the winning run. Josh Roenicke took the loss for the Twins. He walked two and gave up a single to get into trouble in the tenth.

Vance Worley and Clay Buchholz were locked in a pitchers-duel before turning the game over to the bullpens.

Worley gave up an unearned run on six hits and three walks over six innings. He struck out just one, but it was easily his most productive start of the season.

Buchholz maintained his masterful form, striking out nine over seven innings. He allowed two runs on four hits and three walks.

Minnesota's two runs came on one swing from Pedro Florimon, who cranked his second home run of the season just inside the foul pole down the right field line.

The Twins led 2-1 until Brian Duensing gave up an RBI single to Jacoby Ellsbury in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game.

Note: Joe Mauer, who is riding a 14-game hitting streak, missed the game because of a stiff back.
