Report: Cardinals to release Adrian Peterson

Let the drama about where he'll go to next begin.

Adrian Peterson's future with the Arizona Cardinals is in doubt with ESPN reporting that the Cardinals will release him on Monday.

Peterson played for the Saints and Cardinals last season – the first season of his 10-year career that wasn't with the Vikings.

The 32-year-old rushed for 529 yards and 2 touchdowns before a neck injury ended his season in Week 12.

Adam Schefter says the decision to release Peterson will save Arizona from having to pay him a $750,000 bonus on Friday, but there's a chance he could ink a new deal to stay in Arizona.

But that's probably unwise considering Peterson, who said in February that he wants to play four more seasons, would be pushed to a backup role behind David Johnson, who's returning from a knee injury.
