Report: Cassel will finish season as starter, Freeman evaluation over

Matt Cassel will continue holding the keys to the Vikings' offense for the final two weeks of the season.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen tweeted Monday night that Cassel will start the final two games of the season – at Cincinnati and at home in the Metrodome finale against the Lions.

Cassel threw for 382 yards and three touchdowns (one rushing) in Minnesota's 48-30 win over the Eagles on Sunday at the Metrodome. It was a performance that has the likes of Judd Zulgad wondering if Cassel will be back as the Vikings' starter next season.

The latter part of of the tweet is perhaps the more interesting note. Josh Freeman hasn't played since his historically bad game on Monday Night Football against the Giants in October.

As 1500 ESPN recounts, Freeman suffered a concussion in the game and wasn't able to start the following week against Carolina.

The decision to start Freeman just two weeks after signing was a move that was ripped apart by national columnists like Will Brinson of CBS Sports.

Essentially, the Vikings may end up paying Freeman $2 million for one start and 12 weeks of practice.
