Report: Darren Sharper charged with sexual assault in Arizona

Authorities say former Vikings safety Darren Sharper was indicted in Arizona Wednesday on charges of sexual assault and dangerous drugs, The Associated Press reports.

Sharper, who is also the target of other sexual assault allegations in Louisiana, California, Florida, and Nevada, is currently in custody in Los Angeles.

Sharper pleaded not guilty to seven rape and drug counts in connection with two attacks in Hollywood, and was freed on $1 million bail until he was arrested in connection with a rape case in New Orleans, CNN said.

Thursday's charges in Arizona stem from allegations of sexual assaults in Tempe in November. The indictment hasn't been made public yet and police have not released any details on the charges, the AP says.

An All-Pro safety, Sharper played with the Vikings from 2005-2008. He signed with the New Orleans Saints in 2009 and was with the team when he retired in 2010.

Sharper most recently was working as an analyst for the NFL Network, but was fired from the organization last week, the AP says.
