The Twins have locked up left-handed starter Hector Santiago to a one-year, $8 million deal, according to Mike Berardino. Kyle Gibson also avoided arbitration, signing for $2.9 million, per the same report.

Santiago, at that amount of money, is probably a sure thing to begin the season in the starting rotation. He went 3-6 with a 5.58 ERA in 11 starts with Minnesota last season.

Santiago made $5 million in 2016 while splitting time with the Angels and Twins. He was traded to Minnesota for Alex Meyer and Ricky Nolasco.

Minnesota’s starting rotation is a bit of a mystery headed into spring training. But there’s no lack of contenders:

  • Ervin Santana
  • Phil Hughes
  • Kyle Gibson
  • Hector Santiago
  • Tyler Duffey
  • Jose Berrios
  • Ryan Vogelsong
  • Trevor May

Pitchers and catchers report to spring training Feb. 15.
