Kevin Garnett announces retirement from the NBA

Author:

It looks like 21 years in the NBA is enough for Minnesota Timberwolves star Kevin Garnett.

The Star Tribune reports Garnett will call it a career after accepting a buyout from the Wolves. He had one year and nearly $8 million left on his contract with Minnesota.

Here is the video KG posted on Instagram announcing his retirement.

KG jumped straight to the NBA from high school, when he was drafted by the Wolves with the fifth overall pick in the 1995 NBA Draft. He blossomed into one of the greatest power forwards to ever play the game.

Garnett, 40, led the Wolves to eight straight playoff appearances and won an NBA MVP in 2004. The Wolves traded him to Boston before the 2007-08 season; he led the Celtics to an NBA Title that season.

While it was the only title Garnett would win, he also piled up an impressive list of accomplishments.

  • 15 time All-Star
  • 9 time All-NBA Defensive Team
  • In 2008 won the NBA Defensive Player of the Year
  • 4 time All-NBA First Team
  • 4 time NBA rebounding champion
  • Minnesota Timberwolves All time leading scorer

He returned to the Wolves in 2015 when Flip Saunders agreed to trade the New Jersey Nets Thaddeus Young. Garnett appeared in 43 games over the last season and a half with the Wolves.
