The Minnesota Timberwolves and Kevin Garnett have been down a long road and had plenty of memorable moments together. But they've apparently reached the end of the trail.

ESPN reports Garnett and the Wolves are in "advanced stages" of talks on a buyout of the one year remaining on his contract, which would pay the 40-year-old $8 million.

Garnett does not handle the grind of an NBA season like he did in younger days. Since returning to Minnesota midway through the 2014-15 season, he's played in only 43 of the Wolves' 112 games, SB Nation says.

So does this mean he's done playing? Stay tuned.

NBC Sports says Garnett might still be a good fit for a contending team but ESPN's Marc Stein says his sources tell him Garnett will retire.

KG was 20 years old in 1995 when he joined the Timberwolves right out of Farragut Academy High School in Chicago.

He quickly became the team leader and was the face of the franchise over the next 12 years. He spent half a dozen years in Boston, winning an NBA championship with the Celtics.

There have also been 15 All Star game appearances and an MVP award.

Garnett returned to a raucous reception when he reunited with Minnesota and its fans.

A farewell ceremony may be his next event at Target Center, though you can bet he'll be back – at least to see his jersey hoisted into the rafters.
