Report: Las Vegas is getting an NHL team
Las Vegas getting a professional hockey team is a "done deal," according to the AP, with its report backed by ESPN.
Vegas is the largest American city (2.2 million people) without a professional sports team. But that will change soon, but no earlier than the 2017-18 NHL season, ESPN says. Nothing will become official until a formal vote is held June 22.
There's already a 20,000-seat arena near the Las Vegas strip ready to house a franchise.
Quebec City was the other city in consideration for an expansion team.
The NHL hasn't expanded since Minnesota and Columbus were added in 2000.
