Justin Morneau back in a Twins uniform? It's possible, according to Mike Berardino of the Pioneer Press.

As Hardball Talk points out, Morneau would fit the veteran leadership role the Twins are seeking. How much he can produce and how often he would play are entirely different questions.

Morneau, the 2006 American League MVP, played in just 58 games last season with the White Sox and only 49 games in 2015 with the Rockies. He was the 2014 National League batting champion in Colorado, finishing with a .319 batting average, 17 home runs and 82 RBI.

Morneau can play first base but he's been relegated mostly to DH in recent seasons. Adding him in Minnesota would create a logjam of first basemen/designated hitters with Joe Mauer and Byung Ho Park also rostered. Miguel Sano also gets DH'd from time to time, although he's expected to start the season as the everyday third baseman.

Twins pitchers and catchers report for spring training Feb. 15.
