The Kirk Cousins sweepstakes just got a whole lot sweeter for fans of four QB-needy NFL teams.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, only four teams truly have a shot to sign the franchise-caliber quarterback: the Vikings, Broncos, Jets and Cardinals.
Minnesota has been tied to Cousins for weeks now, and speculation about mutual interest between the Vikings and Cousins ramped up big time last week with three NFL Network/NFL.com analysts citing so.
- Ian Rapoport: "They are going to pursue Cousins hard."
- Mike Garafolo: "Vikings are going to make a strong push for Cousins, you can absolutely bet."
- Gil Brandt: ""If I were a betting man, I'd say that's where he lands. Certainly interest on both sides."
The speculation about Cousins grew even more when Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer didn't give any glowing recommendations of Case Keenum, Teddy Bridgewater or Sam Bradford, all of whom will become free agents unless the Vikings franchise tag one of them by March 6.
Cousins could command $30 million per season wherever he signs, and with nearly $60 million cap space the Vikings are among the teams that could afford to pay him.
The Vikings can begin discussing contracts with free agents March 12-14, with the free agency signing period opening later in the day on the 14th.
