Former MLB Cy Young award winner Roy Halladay was killed in a plane crash on Tuesday.

According to the Pasco County Sheriff’s Department, Halladay's plane crashed in the Gulf of Mexico. The specifics of the crash are still under investigation.

Halladay was a two-time Cy Young Award winner and an eight-time All-Star selection. He played for both the Toronto Blue Jays and Philadelphia Phillies in his 16-year career.

The right-handed pitcher owns a career ERA of 3.38 and logged over 2,700 innings.

The original story from Tuesday afternoon is below:

One person is dead after a small plane registered to former MLB pitcher Roy Halladay crashed into the Gulf of Mexico off the coast of St. Petersburg, Florida, on Tuesday, WTSP reports

The individual who died has not been identified, but the serial number in a photo of the crashed aircraft matches the serial number of the plane Halladay recently tweeted a picture of.

Halladay's plane was a 2018 model of the ICON A5, a light sport aircraft that Halladay had a strong passion for.

Halladay actually received the plane from ICON in October, and he was the focus of a video the company produced to show Halladay flying.

The aircraft appears to have room for two people.
