Report: Westbrook stays true to OKC with 3-year extension

Publish date:

Russell Westbrook has agreed to a three-year contract extension with the Oklahoma City Thunder, according to ESPN.

It's been long reported by many that Westbrook would likely leave the Thunder after Kevin Durant bolted tornado alley for a west-coast life with the Golden State Warriors, but the All-Star guard is doing something that a lot of Minnesota athletes haven't: Stay true to a mid-market team.

Westbrooks new deal, per ESPN, will boost his salary in 2016-17 to $26.7 million and he'll make the maximum the following two seasons if he exercises a third-year player option included in the extension.

That's the going rate for a guy who averaged 23.5 points, 7.8 rebounds and 10.4 assists last season.
