With five wins in the first six games of the NFL season, the Vikings have weathered the injury storm that hit the team early just fine.

But it wouldn't hurt to get a guy like Adrian Peterson back sooner than later. Peterson has kept a low profile since hurting his knee Week 2 against Green Bay. And now there is growing speculation that he could be available to rejoin the Purple before the end of the season. Perhaps even in time for the Green Bay rematch Dec. 24 – maybe sooner.

According to Pro Football Talk, the "best guess from within the walls of the organization" is that Peterson will be back in December.

"Eligible to return to action from Injured Reserve in Week 11 (November 20), the best guess from within the walls of the organization is that he’ll play again in December.

It’s unknown whether that means early December or late December, or somewhere in between. On the evening of December 1, the Vikings host the Cowboys on Thursday Night Football. Thereafter in December, the Vikings play the Jaguars in Jacksonville, the Colts at home, and the Packers in Green Bay."

The Vikings weren't running the ball with any success when Peterson was healthy, but their 2.6 yards per carry is dead last in the NFL and a topic of conversation that head coach Mike Zimmer didn't sound very pleased about on Saturday.

"Well it is what is it, I can't change it," Zimmer said. "It's 2.6. That's what it is. I'll just keep trying to do better."

Peterson might be just what the team needs heading into a potential playoff run.
