Rubio's Jazz are on fire, threaten to push Wolves into danger zone

The Jazz are rolling while the Wolves are moving backwards.

It's never easy to win in San Antonio, and the Spurs showed why with a convincing 117-101 win over the Wolves Saturday night.

Minnesota led 24-15 late in the first quarter before the Spurs went bonkers by hitting 19 straight shots – and they never looked back.

Meanwhile, Ricky Rubio and the Utah Jazz have won 21 of 23 to tie Minnesota and San Antonio with a record of 40-30, slotting the three teams in the 5-6-7 holes in the Western Conference playoff race.

Minnesota currently owns the tiebreaker over Utah, but San Antonio has the head-to-head edge on the Wolves.

That tiebreaker is critical because it might wind up being the difference between the sixth or seventh seed, and teams that finish seventh and eighth have a high chance of getting swept out of the playoffs in the first round by Houston or Golden State.

Speaking of Houston, they're in Minneapolis Sunday to play the Wolves, and they've smoked Minnesota by 18 points in all three of their previous meetings this season.

As bad as it sounds, the Wolves are still just 1.5 games behind Oklahoma City for fourth in the West, and they own the tiebreaker over the Thunder.

It needn't be said, but the final 12 games of the season could result in home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs or a spot on the couch for a 14th straight season.
