Among the 15 players and staff killed in a tragic bus crash involving a junior hockey team last Friday in Saskatchewan was 16-year-old Adam Herold.

Herold's favorite NHL player: Minnesota Wild defenseman Ryan Suter, who penned a tribute to Herold after learning that the young Humboldt Broncos defenseman idolized him.

"It's extremely humbling and emotional to hear that Adam Herold told his teammates before every game that he wanted to emulate my play," Suter wrote.

"I wish this wasn't how I found out; I wish he could've told me as he lined up alongside me on NHL ice in a few years. I've read articles about him and each word is a tribute to his character and selfless nature, and I'm honored that a great kid like that would choose me as a person to look up to.

"I'm heartbroken for his family, teammates and friends. And for everyone who has been affected by this tragedy. The entire hockey community is thinking of you, and praying for you.

"I'll never forget your tribute, Adam. Thank you."

According to TSN, Herold was the youngest of the 15 who died in the accident. His 17th birthday would've been Thursday.
