Ryder Cup celebrity golf power rankings: Who is No. 1?

At 2 p.m. Tuesday, 16 celebrities from the U.S. and Europe will go head-to-head in a mini-Ryder Cup at Hazeltine National in Chaska.

BringMeTheNews has taken a look at Tuesday's pairings and ranked them based on ... well, no one specific reason really, we're just having some fun.

No. 1

Huey Lewis (6.5 handicap) and Bill Murray (10.6) – Team USA

Come on, it's Bill Murray for crying out loud. Not only is he a golf movie legend with his performance in "Caddyshack," he's also a Minnesota favorite through his involvement as a part-owner of the St. Paul Saints, where he works as the "team psychologist."

His partner when they tee off is Huey Lewis, who will be hoping to make "the news" by using the power of love to send himself and Bill to victory over Paul O'Connell and Niall Horan.

No. 2

Paul O'Connell (11) and Niall Horan (9) – Team Europe

Speaking of whom, One Direction band member Niall has somehow found the time in between performing, getting relentlessly chased by screaming teens and writing songs (OK, not the last one) to achieve a 9 handicap, which is fairly impressive.

Playing alongside him is Paul O'Connell, who may be an unfamiliar name but is definitely someone you don't want to mess with. He's the former captain of the Ireland rugby union team and at 6'6", 243 lbs, he'll be looking to pull off some monster putts.

No. 3

Kurt Russell (HDCP 13) and Rob Riggle (HDCP 13)– Team USA

It could be Kurt Russell on his own and he'd still make the top 3 – the man played Snake Plissken in "Escape from New York" (and L.A.), one of the coolest characters in movie history.

But he's joined by Rob Riggle, who's this writer's favorite former Marine turned comic actor (OK, against literally zero competition). It's not Riggle's first time on the course by any means – check out this funny video of him appearing on "Celebrities in Golf Carts."

No. 4

Michael Phelps (15.6) and Kelly Slater (3.7) – Team USA

These two are the guys you want in your team if your ball lands in the lake.

The all-time Olympic gold medal record-holder Phelps hopes to take to Hazeltine like himself to water, though he'll need a bit of help from former surfing hero Slater, who sports a mean handicap for a laid back beach dude.

No. 5

Alessandro Del Piero (12) and Andriy Shevchenko (2) – Team Europe

If this celebrity matchup was held in Europe, these two would probably be top of the power rankings (just kidding, it'd totally be Bill Murray still), because across the Atlantic they are football (soccer) royalty.

Del Piero is an Italian striker who in 2006 was a part of the World Cup-winning team – and as well as being an excellent goal scorer, he's also dashingly handsome.

Ukrainian Shevchenko meanwhile was arguably Europe's best striker during the mid-2000s and after hanging up his boots, he ran a failed campaign to be elected as Ukrainian president, though in hindsight, probably not the worst outcome for him.

No .6

John Regis (6.3) and Martina Navratilova (16) – Team Europe

Tennis legend Navratilova could play for either side, given she was born Czech, was stripped of her citizenship when asking America for asylum, became a U.S. citizen, and later reacquired her Czech citizenship while keeping her U.S. one. Complicated, hey? Anyway she's great at tennis, less so at golf with a 16 handicap.

She'll be joined by John Regis, the British sprinter who won World Gold in the 4x400m relay in 1991 and Olympic silver in 1988 and bronze in 92. He probably won't go and compare medals with Michael Phelps.

No. 7

Todd English (19) Jeremy Roenick (3) – Team USA

Despite his name, English is playing for Team USA, and is one of two celebrity chefs in the competition – so let's hope he serves up plenty of delicious birdies, but not eagles as that's a federal crime.

Jeremy Roenick, according to some swift Googling, is a decorated former NHL star who played for, among other teams, the Chicago Blackhawks. So he's sure to get a famous Minnesota welcome at Hazeltine.

No. 8

Jose Andres (21) and Nigel Lythgoe (17) – Team Europe

Viewers of "American Idol"and "So You Think You Can Dance" will be familiar with Lythgoe, the British TV producer who was a judge on Idol after earning the moniker "Nasty Nigel" a few years earlier as a TV talent show judge in the U.K.

The second-worst handicap player will be joined by the worst, in a pairing that will be fun to watch because it's like how we play golf. Jose Andres is a Spanish celebrity chef who has had huge success with critically acclaimed restaurants across the U.S.
