SCSU hockey head coach will lead USA World Juniors team in 2017

St. Cloud State men's hockey coach Bob Motzko was named the head coach of the U.S. World Juniors team in 2017.

This is the second time Motzko will be on the U.S. coaching staff – he served as an assistant coach during the 2014 championships.

Motzko told USA "It is a real honor to be asked to lead your country in what is considered one of the greatest hockey tournaments on the hockey calendar."

The World Junior championships will be held in Montreal and Toronto and runs from Dec. 26, 2016 to Jan. 5, 2017.


Phil Housley named head coach for U.S. junior hockey team

St. Paul’s Phil Housley has been named the head coach of the United States Junior hockey team. After 21 years in the NHL, Housley coached hockey at Stillwater High for eight years. Housley’s new team will head to Russia for an international tournament in 2013.

Granlund, Finland upsets Team USA at World Junior Championships

Minnesota Wild prospect Mikael Granlund scored a big insurance goal in the third period to help Finland upset Team USA in the preliminary round of the World Junior Championships Wednesday. The loss puts a lot of pressure on the U.S. to beat the Czech Republic on Friday.
