Another day, another stadium bill introduced at the Capitol

While the Vikings, Minneapolis, and the Dayton administration are in negotiations to come up with a stadium plan, state lawmakers have floated a series of long-shot proposals of their own. The latest is a revival of the "racino" idea, which would use revenue from slot machines at horse racing tracks to help fund a new stadium. Gambling opponents and tribal casinos have helped defeat the proposal in the past.

Vikings Stadium bill in the state Senate unveiled

The stadium legislation was released Friday afternoon following the agreement Gov. Mark Dayton, Minneapolis leaders and Vikings owners announced March 1. It proposes constructing a 65,000 seat roofed-stadium near the current Metrodome site for $975 million. $398 million would come from the state, funded by electronic pulltabs. Minneapolis would cover $150 million of the cost and the Vikings would pay the remaining $427 million.
