Sequester cancels Target Field flyover on opening day

Due to budget constraints stemming from the sequester, the U.S. Air Force won't fly over Target Field this year for the Twins' opening day on April 1, KARE 11 reports.

The short-lived tradition of F-16 fighter jets from the Duluth-based 148th Fighter Wing thundered over the stadium in 2010 and 2011, and a B-52 bomber from the Air Force flew over in 2012.

An Air Force spokesperson told the Twins that all public flyovers and events will be cancelled as of March.

The sequester or "sequestration" went into effect last Friday, resulting in $85 billion in federal budget cuts. President Barack Obama has been consulting with Republican lawmakers in hopes of reaching a bipartisan deal.
