Seven Minnesotans highlight US Under 18 hockey team

A hockey hotbed doesn't really begin to give enough credit to Minnesota on the ice.

With a rich history already under the state's belt, there is more great talent being bred within our borders.

That is clearly evident and well represented on the most recent USA Hockey Under 18 Select team chosen for the 2013 version of the Ivan Hlinka Memorial tournmanet.

Seven Minnesotans highlight the 21-man roster, the most of any state, headlined by St. Cloud forward and North Dakota recruit Austin Poganski. Minnesota is also featured on the coaching staff for the annual competition, with UMD assistant Derek Plante serving as head coach Bob Corkum's assistant.

The US has won the tournament just once in it's 20 years of existence, and medaled just once in the past six years. Canada is the five-time defending champion of the tournament that is also known as the Under 18 Junior World Cup.
