Slumping Gophers look to snap streak
Ready to jump off the Gophers basketball bandwagon?
Not so fast.
After losing four straight, Tubby Smith’s team could easily win their next two games. Both are at Williams Arena: tonight against Nebraska (11-10, 2-6), Sunday against Iowa (13-7, 2-5).
Senior Trevor Mbakwe tells the Associated Press Minnesota’s mid-season slump “is mostly mental” and the Gophers (15-5, 3-4) are still one of the “best teams in the country.”
While the Big 10 title might be gone for Minnesota, plenty of games remain to earn a high seed in the NCAA tournament.
A victory would also be Smith's 119th as Minnesota head coach, and would pass Dan Monson for sixth-most on the Gophers' win list.
